01 · The unsolved problem

More data than any extractive industry in history — and a dry hole rate that has not moved in decades.

The industry has drilled more than five million wells since Titusville, 1859. It images the subsurface to five kilometres at metre-scale resolution and runs reservoir simulations of extraordinary complexity. The problem was never a shortage of data. It is that no one has read all of it as a single answer.

Subsurface interpretation is still an art — horizons picked by hand, fluids inferred from regional analogues, models tuned by judgment. The picture that reaches the drilling decision is a consensus, not an answer.

The subsurface does not lie. PETRA reads every measurement as one field and returns a single answer.

Seismic, logs, pressure, fluids — PETRA holds them to each other until they agree on one description of the formation, then puts a number on how well they agree. You are handed an answer, a score, and the full record behind both.

PETRA does not just describe Meridian-3 — it scores how completely the evidence agrees. Three questions every prospect must answer. When all three resolve, the data has converged on a real target.

05 · When PETRA says no

The same engine that confirms a prospect can name exactly why another one fails.

A clean answer is only half the value. PETRA also recognizes the ways a prospect cannot hold together — and names the failure before any capital is committed.

The structure does not seal; any charge present has migrated away.
Dry reservoir
Rock quality fails — it cannot hold or flow hydrocarbons at commercial rates.

Top or fault seal leaks; the column cannot be retained. The evidence stopped agreeing the moment every source was read together.

Pressure, contacts and fluid data refuse to reconcile into one consistent column.

A real accumulation that cannot clear the economic threshold to drill.
On Meridian-7, the adjacent prospect, the same data refused to reconcile — the top seal leaked the instant all sources were read as one field. PETRA returned a coherence of 0.31 and recommended no well. That single call avoided a $148M dry hole.

Thirty-eight years of reading the rock — now encoded into the platform.

A petroleum geologist whose career spans national and international exploration and production. Eighteen years with India's ONGC — including its Geo-Data Processing & Interpretation Centre (GEOPIC), Dehradun — followed by eighteen years across the national oil companies of the Middle East: BAPCO in Bahrain, Qatar Petroleum, and Kuwait Oil Company. He earned his PhD in Geology from Osmania University while serving at ONGC, on top of an MSc and a BSc (Hons) in Geology. At KOC he served as Focal Point for Shale Gas Studies alongside Core Lab Houston, establishing a significant unconventional resource potential and authoring some eight international papers on shale gas and tight carbonates. His specializations — applied geology and geophysics for exploration, field development and production geology, shale oil and gas assessment, and tight, naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs — are the lifetime of subsurface judgment that PETRA's outcome model is built to carry.
